It likely still isn't correct. The few jets from WWII were not particularly efficient. There were either centrifugal flow, which had many inefficiencies, or they were turbojets with no bypass at all. Because they didn't have the alloys we have now, they had to operate at lower temperatures and pressures. The turbojets also had fewer stages and only a single spool.

As a result, there is no reason to believe that your statement is true.
