Ahhaha, I asked a straightforward question looking for a straightforward answer. If you are interested in a pissing contest, I am the wrong guy. You won.

There are numerous quantitative measures of the sentiment, some of which (eg ISE EPC, OCC "retail" (1-10 contracts) EPC, odd lot short sales, non-reportrable positions in COT, some sentiment surveys etc) reflect positioning of the guys who are always wrong at the turning points.
