Well, as I've mentioned before, I was taught the same thing that Obama says he was taught: that hand-over-heart is reserved for the Pledge. I'd feel uncomfortable covering my heart during the Anthem -- not because I don't think the Anthem "deserves" it, or because I don't want to go along with what others are doing, but just because I'm not used to it.

Also, while the Anthem stirs me up every time, I have a more solemn feeling about the Pledge. Covering my heart signifies that feeling for me.

I guess I grew up thinking that was the whole idea: be passionate about the Anthem, solemn about the Pledge. But evidently that was just me.
