The Soviets were given Eastern Europe since they occupied it, the US, Britain, and France got Western Europe. Nobody took anything from anyone in the sense that there was an agreement between the Allies on how to divide Europe. Stalin promised to allow free elections in Eastern Europe. Did that ever happen? The allies did not promise to let Stalin take half of Europe into the Soviet empire.
