The story headlined: *Exclusive* Microsoft Getting Ready to Sell MSN
starts by presenting it as fact, citing two "company insiders"
(whatever that means). Then later quotes Solomon analyst:

Not everyone is a believer......
"It is a possibility," says Neil Herman, an analyst with Salomon Brothers. "But not a likely one in my mind."

So which is it thestreet.com? Fact or speculation?

Bloomberg since however has reported the TSC story as:

10/09/97 Microsoft to Sell Stake in MSN Online Service for $1 Billion

Citing only TSC as source; and neglecting to mention that the
TSC $1 billion figure came not from the "insiders", but was and
off-the-cuff number from an analyst at Burnam using WCOM/CSRV
as benchmark.

This is how stuff gets rolling.
