So, in western European countries, gasoline consumption was between 6.7 (Spain) and 3.8 (UK) times less than the US as of 2003.


KyrosL it looks as if the motor gasoline figures did not include diesel:

It shows Spain as using more diesel per capita than the US.

I think for an accurate comparison we would need to look at how much oil overall is used in transportation per capita. The figures for diesel could be skewed by utility usage (Look at Luxembourg and Gibraltar..)
