Paul, I have heard that the Merced will probably be a large (and thus expensive) chip. The press release suggests that 32 bit microprocessors will continue to be developed. Apparently there will be a significant overlap period between 32 and 64 bit products, and Merced isn't aimed at ordinary PC users. I would take this to imply that it may be quite a while after Merced is introduced before it will filter down to consumer cost levels. Also, in the beginning ther is a good chance that Microsoft won't have their software ready. Putting all this together, maybe I won't be getting a new Merced in 1999 after all. What's your take on this? Luke
