Good for the "collective" in those cultures.

The "collective" in the US culture are organizations. Would you want the top heads of your organizations to do what Enron executives did do their companies and stake holders or would you want them to be "more obligated".

When the larger collectives fail because of "lack of moral obligation", then people will try to seek security in other collectives - families, clans, governments, religious bodies.

>"The collective" seems to be a very real concept in many cultures. Apparently the most successful and productive members of the collective believe themselves to be morally obligated to subsidize the others in their collective, be it family, tribe, clan, etc.

Good on you if you are on the receiving end, rather hard if you are on the giving end.>
