When the larger collectives fail because of "lack of moral obligation", then people will try to seek security in other collectives - families, clans, governments, religious bodies.
I don't think it's really possible for me to fully comprehend this mindset. I am very much a product of a culture where families are nuclear families, and nuclear families move many times during their existence.
I'll gladly -- or if not gladly, resolvedly -- take care of my husband, my sons, my mother, my father, but not my uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and while I'd take care of my sister, her husband is out of the question.
As for Enron, if you think Enron is typical American business, I wonder why you have any interest whatsoever in American business. My guess is that you know Enron is far from typical.
