"You're not suggesting that the South had no problem with Lincoln and the liberation of the slaves???"

No.

Ok, let me establish my credentials. I am a 8th generation Texan. And I was born and raised in East Texas. Now, East Texas is where the rice and cotton is grown. So this is the part where the slaves were kept and where most of the blacks in the state still live. I remember the assassination of JFK, so that means I lived through the latter part of the period where the Southern Strategy was effective.

Oh yeah, I also lived for a number of years in Galveston. Where Juneteenth is a recognized holiday. Google it if you are clueless.

While I was growing up, Lincoln was not seen as much of anything but a Dead White Guy. Carpetbaggers are a different issue. They were the symbol of Reconstruction.

"Reconstruction had nothing to do with the swing to the Republicans in about 1964, but the Civil Rights Act may have....not so?"

You are so obviously clueless. Reconstruction has everything to do with race in the South. Lincoln's vision for the South, which was much like Johnson's, would not have resulted in more than a century of strife.

In my opinion.
