Even if Democrats are elected, they don't have the balls to do what Friedman suggests. If they didn't have the balls to refuse to fund the Iraq war to force Bush to withdraw, then they certainly won't have the balls to increase gas taxes, which will increase the cost of gas for poor Americans from 12% of their take home pay to 16% of their take home pay. It's a tough sacrifice to ask for.

I don't know.....I think they may be starting to grow some..........they are catching a lot of flack from their constituents and realize just complaining that the GOP is unwilling to play ball is not enough. Now they are trying to get the GOP to filibuster against a bill that would set a deadline for troops to start coming home. It won't get their bill through Congress but it makes the GOP look like uncooperative jackasses........something they can't afford right now with elections right around the corner. Its too bad the GOP's constituents are not up in arms. It certainly would help. Unfortunately, they are still getting ready for the rapture.
