For colon cancer the best screening strategy is probably a colonoscopy every 10 years starting at the age of 50 - that is if everything is normal and the person has no symptoms and no family history of colon cancer. If there are any doubts, the screening should be started earlier and done at closer intervals. "Virtual" colonoscopy is less invasive, but last I heard it is still not covered by insurers. Its sensitivity is thought to be close to that of a regular fiberoptic procedure. If there are any findings or doubts the person will still need a traditional fiberoptic study.
