The MEMS products and samples I saw at the analyst meeting yesterday are far more advanced and closer to production than one might have believed when the first samples were demonstrated last March at the shareholders meeting. There is a misconception about the use of MEMS.

It's true that the image is brighter and easier to read in daylight. But the main advantage is that MEMS is a display that is designed to be on all the time. That is, it would display messages or other information continuously, without ever being turned off. The applications here are different from an LCD display. which drains battery power whenever it is on. The initial reason for using MEMS is NOT to replace the LCD but to use it applications requiring that it be on all the time.
