I've had two people out of a list of 15 who had some idea of Juneteenth....no detail, but they knew it was a Black holiday.

re: Solid South.....in 52 Stevenson had a solid south. In 56 it was still solid dem. except for LA. In 60 still solid dem.(JFK) except for Miss. and 1/2 Ala which went for Byrd. In 64,after the Civil Rights Act, the flip occurred and the south went solid repub for Goldwater. In 68, the south went totally for Wallace and the American Independence party.(civil rights again?). 72...solid repub for Nixon. 76 was a surprise....Carter took the whole south but in 80 it went totally Reagan except for Ga. 84 was total Reagan. 88 total Bush I. 92 Solid repub except Ark, La, Ga for Clinton. 96 total Dole except Ark, La. 2000 solid Bush II. 2004 solid Bush II.

Reconstruction.....do you think the south would have reacted so strongly to it if slavery was still legal.? I don't.
