the bigger issue is not torture which we can all agree should be strictly defined. It is gaining intel in general. Its not torture to tap calls coming from foreign lands. In a perfect world, i want my nephew in england to be able to call me with being monitored but the world is not perfect and we must do everything we can to keep us safe. Only time torture is justified imo is when there is a smoking gun and large numbers of people are going to die. We all watch CSI. If a kidnapper has a kid buried and he is caught and wont reveal location, i have no problem in beating the hell out of him to save the kid. Same with a terrorist who has planted something in a mall that sets to go off--which mall bud? If i kill him in the process then feel free to try me for murder if you wish. But i would do it and i expect our lawmen to do the same in critical circumstances.
