Research shows that many people who don't have insurance actually can afford it, just don't buy it, because their health is excellent and they don't care to spend the money, and that many families eligible for programs like SCHIP don't enroll. vimo.com
Interesting that much of the research that is being done is funded by the Henry J. Kaiser Foundation, as Henry J. Kaiser founded Kaiser Permanente, the most successful HMO.
My family are members of Kaiser Permanente, have been for almost 20 years, so we are fairly satisfied with the concept of managed care. The doctors are salaried, so no incentive to recommend unnecessary services, and they are good about preventive care.
I don't get to pick the world's best doctors as my personal physicians but all their doctors are board certified.
We pay a $10 co-pay for dr. visit, $20 for a specialist, hospitalization, surgery, etc., is free. HMOs are affordable solutions that more people ought to use. |
