I share your perplexity.

However, I have read, and it seems to me a good idea, to be guided by the market. Here is just one chart, showing the recent past and current situation of the Canadian dollar ( versus the American dollar). I perceve a similar chart for most other "currencies" including the metals you mention. Indeed I see their historic strength to be simply the mirror image of the weakness of the US $. But now the chart(s) suggest that the American dollar is strengthening (relatively).(The world wants it so).

One thought occurs to me, "hedging" linked to the Canadian dollar (i.e holding Canadian dollars) may not be as good a policy as it has been in the past. Which side of this chart would you rather be on ?
