Tell your kids little stories about your Mom....Make her more real to them....Have a scrapbook of her pictures, and let them help you label the pictures....you may remember some other things while you do that project.

If she wrote any letters or cards to anyone you know, maybe copy them, and someday make a booklet or book of both the letters and the pictures for your kids.... I did that for mine, and all of them had tears in their eyes as young adults when I gave them each 2 books of letters and pics I had put into crono order of their Grandparents....

Re your Dad.... I have somewhat the same thing here....was your Dad by any chance from a reserved New England family? Are your kids very young right now? My FIL was just amazing with our kids when they were young. He didn't play games with them (oh, I guess he did play 'horsie' a few times around the floor) but mostly he read a lot to himself when he was with us, but the kids wanted to be near him....so he read to them sometimes....and mostly they asked questions and he talked to them and told them funny stories....

I read a long time ago that we are all better with kids at different ages for them.....and I've come to believe that is true.
