OFF TOPIC: Stockwatch
Hi Scott,
I find Stockwatch pretty good... I think it is about the best database and quote/chart service available for Canadian stocks... They now have live Java quotes, intraday, etc... so it's pretty good. You can subscribe at several levels of service, and each includes different features. I make the most use of the quotes/charts, the news service... and the portfolio screen which I set up to watch a group of favourite stocks which I either hold or follow. Stockwatch sends out a "market summary" for the day, and any news releases for the stocks included on your portfolio screen... I find that the news releases come out pretty quickly... usually within about 1/2 to 1 hour of appearing on either Canada Newswire, or Canadian Corporate News.
Some of the other great features on the site are a Market Workplace where you can preset the filters in various ways to track the block trading of stocks throughout the day... and also a screen which you can set up to watch the various Canadian exchanges to find high volume trading stocks, ones that are increasing in price, percentage gain, etc... If you like to keep an eye on trading, these are great features. The other really good thing is that you can use the detail screens and enter tickers to see which house is buying/selling a stock (as well as the price and # of shares) throughout the day... and they have a "market depth" feature... which is a bit expensive and available only at a higher cost level, but which is pretty helpful when trying to figure out buy/sell strategies... (although you can't rely on everything you see just because all-or-nothing orders don't show up there as well as a couple of other types of buy/sell activities).
Also really useful is a thing called the Trading Workstation, where you can request house positions for a stock for any period of time ranging from 1 t0 30 days... (you choose the dates you want to see)... You can also see the day's trades on a stock... or all of the buy/sell activity for a particular house for 1 to 30 days... Anyhow, the best thing is to check out the website and read about the features. I'm pretty sure that they still offer a 30 day free trial period of the service... so you should definitely check it out and try all of these features... If there are any that you don't understand, just drop me a line on this thread and I will try to help you out... As you can see, I really take advantage of all of the features on it... and think it is pretty good... Hope that helps... (-:
