i didn't infer they had STOPPED flying, the point i am making is that consumers are APPROACHING the point of having to make choices they do not wish to make

people are very loathe to change their lifestyle and spending patterns (they call them 'patterns' for a reason) even in the face of increasing financial stress, i read an article about this a number of months ago that went into the psychology of why people are so unwilling to alter behavior during financial stress and in a word the reason is denial, despite that eventually people become rational and actually DO start making changes in anticipation of further financial need

so expect a lot of complaining and moaning while people are yet still flying as they feel their 'wealth effect' declining by the month

did you happen to see the last consumer sentiment survey? it is at it's lowest level in 2 years. it fell much more sharply in the last month, this despite a highly anticipated rate CUT.

nordstrom beats analysts and target misses, 2 Americas?

people ARE feeling the economic pinch, not the wealthy yet, but certainly the middle class
