Yeah one could start a revolution if too many people accept it as legal exchange.

Look what happened in Canada. This is the last chart I could find on this currency, which is legal tender in the sense that anyone can be talked into taking it in place of CAD because everyone in Canada shops there. There are hundreds of millions of Canadian Tire Bucks in circulation exerting a deflationary effect on the real currency, think about it. And as long as Canadian Tire is in business their currency is legal tender because the government cannot legislate that its citizens are not allowed to trade it if they wish to. In recent months it has surpassed the USD in value
