And its not just in Jamestown and Plymouth where you see such differences. Look at the starvation after farms where collectivized in the Soviet Union. Look at the problems caused by seizing farms in Zimbabwe. Those two are just off the top of my head, I'm sure I could provide a number of other examples if you want them.

I am the first to say that given current attitudes, communal living is not likely to work for most cultures. However, the Israelis have ample successes in their kibbutzim that you all repeatedly overlook.

When people can personally benefit from hard smart work, they work harder and smarter. When both your efforts and the results of those efforts are socialized poverty, even starvation is much more likely to result.

That's what you believe and you make that belief stick by the examples you drudge up or by reading ridiculous stories by Stossel. However, there has been considerable evidence of people working hard towards a common goal throughout history.
