Thanks for the reply and the link. It got me started reading about the SIPC and I came across this about the limits on brokerage accounts .. "SIPC protects brokerage accounts of each customer up to $500,000 in securities, including a limit of $100,000 on claims for cash awaiting reinvestment." So it seems the total including any cash is 500,000 .. fwiw.
