True but reality has a way of catching up with the manipulators.

I recall reading a book on the 1920s bubble the the 1929 crash many years ago.

Then as now most were convinced that a market meltdown was impossible because "they" (bankers, brokers, Washington, insiders) would not "allow" it to happen.

Also then as now the post of Treasury Secretary was held by an ultra-rich, ultra reactionary plutocrat (Andrew Mellon then and Paulson now) whose main goal in life was to make the rich still richer.
