ElM, I didn't start working in Belgium, Canada and UK. Those were indeed well-paid and interesting jobs; they were not cushy. Government jobs were cushy jobs. I saw lots of people with those. They continue to pollute the planet.

Pouring concrete in non-stop 12 hour shifts on top of a rising column of concrete was hard work. But not as hard work as loading hay flat out, starting at 6.30am and finishing at 9.30pm. It is amazing how much a human body can do when fully fit. It took a couple of weeks to start to get fully fit. Grinding concrete wasn't a lot of fun, especially since breathing and hearing protection weren't normal in those days, other than superficial protection. Same with spray painting big rubbish bins and coughing up yellow paint [which was no doubt lead-based with toluene and muck in it]. Carrying bags of cement kept a young back strong. Railway wagons can hold a LOT of that stuff! Ships can hold a LOT of sheep carcasses and butter too. When loaded by hand, it's a lot more effort than nowadays with those container cranes! Running around scaffolding barefoot like a monkey installing it 10 stories high was fun. We didn't have belts, and all sorts of safety stuff then. I got zero training. Just step out into the scaffolding and start working with the guy with the ticket. That was light and pleasant work, like installing cellphone towers.

Just some of my jobs ElM. I don't really need lectures on what real work is like thanks.
