The argument has been going on for a very long time. I remember reading an article 5 yrs ago about banning fireplace fires in some city in Montana.....sorry can't remember which one.......and know somewhere, someone is trying to make it happen in several cities nationwide.

Were I live, we are required to have certified wood burning fireplace, or if not and it is our only source of heat, we can continue to use. We converted to NG fireplace 5 yrs ago and have never been happier. No more mess in house and we can breath when we go outside. We do smell smoke in air this time of year but are fortunate to live on the top of the hill.

There can be other problems with wood burning fireplaces/stoves.My neighbor had to turn the neighbor right next to her into the EPA for burning rubber backed rugs in her wood stove a few yrs ago.
