* Late Wednesday, APPLE COMPUTER INC said that it has reduced
wholesale prices of its "Power Macintosh" personal computers by a
maximum of 26% in Japan. The company said the price cut was
implemented as of Thursday on six models of the desk-top PCs,
including entry-level 4400/200 and high-end 8600/250, a
spokeswoman for Apple's Japanese unit said. Currently, retail
prices of the entry-level models range from 200,000 yen to 300,000
yen, the spokeswoman said. The price cut is aimed to boost sales
in light of the upcoming year-end shopping season, the unit said
