Cover story in this week's Businessweek Magazine:

businessweek.com

It outlines how some hospitals are now 'selling' their patient accounts to credit card outfits who then squeeze the patients for the money via high interest rates. The 'sales' are done as soon as the hospitals determine the patient 'level of insurance' and they get anywhere from 50 cents to 90 cents on the dollar for the owed balances. This hits the uninsured and underinsured. Ah, nothing like capitalism to 'consumerize' hospital charges and institute those high credit card interest rates!!!

Regards,
John
