michael; Did you ever take into account that the US military defends the free world and since you folks wont pay taxes here, we find another way to charge you What! You think Europe needs to be defended by the US? The result of that "charge" you think Europe is paying is a lower standard of living for Americans. Goods produced around the world cost us more. That is what the price of gold is telling you. If it takes half as much gold to buy something - in US dllars - we are paying twice as much for it. Oil is but one example. If you think the Europeans are paying the cost - think again when you fuel up your gas tank. If you think the suns going down on the american century, it is certainly not europe that will be replacing it. Europe is doing a lot of things smart - their energy policy for instance. They are light years ahead of us in the transformation of alternate energy sources. We continue to dig a deeper and deeper hole by taking on a war we cannot afford and putting it all on the charge card. Not saying the sun is going down on our empire - but the last few years are certainly a cause for concern. steve
