I agree one would be wise to watch short positions carefully, but I don't agree many investors can't do it well. There have been major chunks of the market going down for almost a year now, and simply putting a chunk of money into those sectors on the short side and sitting on them would have been very rewarding. Your way is fine, although in a bear it won't be a few months or a year, it could be five to ten years....
