The Surge is a lie. It's a PR campaign. It;'s an escalation of the war and a trick to waste more of our money and manpower in Iraq. But it's not a solution to anything, especially longer term.

It hasn't affected support for Bush's debacle one bit either. 80% of the country still wants the mess over with. Bush has been trying to hide behind Petreus and Petreus has therefore been politicized, exactly what Ricrado Sanchez blames for our failures over there, politicization of our military by the Bush GOP. Almost all the retired generals are not only against Bush but the Surge (escalation and payoffs to Sunni Baathists) too. Listen to them not Petreus who is still active so has to follow all orders from Bush and cannot speak his mind.

Sure 300,000 US troops and mercenaries can clear out Anbhar Province for awhile. But what about the rest of Iraq? And what about a solution over there? Almost nothing has been done but install more security in Anhbar and weed out some Al Qaida fighters. That's fine but the big picture is still the same.
