The largest economy in the world is now Europe, with 500 million consumers. We've fallen to second place, with 300 million. For the moment, we're still to big to be allowed to fail. This won't be true when China and India have a billion consumers between them - and that's just maybe 20-30 years away.

We need to wake up and smell the coffee, lest we go the way of the Spanish Empire.
