Yes, and look at the price Sadat paid. The thing to note is that Sadat and Begin together made the change in course. What everyone demands of Israel now is that Israel by itself somehow do it again, without a Sadat on the other side. Since it is the other side that is providing the impediment to peace, this amounts to a demand that Israel keep bashing itself against the impediment to prove its good faith, which is rather the point of the exercise as far as the Arab states are concerned. It's such a wonderful tar baby, this "peace process."
