By the by, I just did about 700 highway miles yesterday in my daughter's Civic Hybrid and the best it could do was 40 MPG. 39.8, actually, and I was very obsessively trying to get the maximum mileage out of it while still keeping speed around 5-10 mph above posted limits.

It really clinched it for me that not only is the hybrid technology used by Honda a very misguided approach, the use of a gas engine instead of a diesel worsens the crime. A VW Jetta (or even Passat) with the TDI would've done MUCH better.

I typically get mid 50's in the Camry Hybrid, which is a much bigger and heavier car, and likely offers a lot more wind and rolling resistance.
