Its not true, and its also not Stossel's premise, at least not one expressed in that article.

Of course its true. Its the entire point of the article.....sharing a common goal is not possible:

"The failure of Soviet communism is only the latest demonstration that freedom and property rights, not sharing, are essential to prosperity."
