Regardless... SOMEBODY needs to be responsible and do the counting and cost/effectiveness analysis of spending (especially where it's ALL deficit-loading, and we don't even have the guts or foresight to pay in real-time... because the back end results of that kind of irresponsibility is always much more costly).

The world is FULL of things we could (& a whole lot that we should) be doing --- but the way of the world has not changed, OPPORTUNITY COST attachs to every policy consideration.

For a lot of them, (to put it crudely), the 'game is not worth the candle'.

Another way of expressing that is to say that we are HURTING AMERICA'S STRATEGIC INTERESTS by acting foolishly... and, in effect, shooting ourselves in the foot.

Of course our enemies will sit back contentedly and just WATCH --- as we advantage THEM by disadvantaging ourselves.
