AQ will remain a real threat to pakistan and afganistan for quite awhile. Perhaps even in other areas of South Asia. Middleeast is a motivator for jihadists but their are other reasons for al quaeda to exist. One of the things that must happen to is that the saudis and the wahabis have to separate themselves from the violent manifestations of their orthodoxy. There are many orthodox in all religions that are not prone to violence. One doesnt automatically come with the other. The teachings in the madrases lead to violent manifestations i think.
