Re: Herb Greenberg / Syquest SparQ

I suggest that every Iomega investor read today's HG column (linked in Dirk's post #31739). IMO, this is confirmation of the rumor regarding Syquest's impending release of the SparQ. This product could be a Jaz Killer.

Once again for anyone who may have missed it, here's the notes that were posted then quickly removed from the Boot site:

Syquest SparQs Up

Following iomega's announcement of a 2GB successor to its
successful Jaz removable cartridge drive, SyQuest is coming out
with its Jaz killer: the Winchester-based SparQ. The $199 drive
is targeted as a second hard drive with expandability provided in
the form of 1GB cartridges that will sell for $99 a three-pack,
breaking down to three cents per megabyte. The lightweight SparQ
drive will initially be available in internal EIDE and parallel
port models, with a SCSI version planned for Q2 of 1998. SyQuest
promises SyJet-caliber performance of 12ms access times and
6.9MB/sec transfer rates.

Thats $33 a GIG!
