I hear it occasionally in passing, but haven't heard it within the company. The parts of the company on both sides of the pond have being doing their thing for about the same amount of time.

It's kinda like Google and the like throwing around the word "Community" like it was just yesterday they invented the concept of the internet being an enabler for bringing people together without a lot of the real-world baggage.

But I've learned not to dismiss ALL the latest buzzwords. Blogs are nothing more than a hobbled version of what we do. We're many-to-many and a blog is one-to-many. As such, I dismissed them as another buzzword fad that would go the way of the dodo, but Myspace has proven me wrong.

Google's at least aware of the "Community" aspect now. Whether they truly understand the concept is anyone's guess. Whether they can be the next great community-enabler isn't something I'd bet on. I know for a fact that no matter how deep your pockets, you can't have a community tomorrow unless you buy an existing one.

All that's missing is the real-time cam of a guy in his underwear pressing the "Sell Short Now!" button on 5000 shares of a mortgage lender he doesn't even own.

There's a name for that guy if he did it in the past year. "Genius".

The value of my HMB position (a seemingly safe, solid company) completely evaporated nearly overnight.
