I have white ancestors who fought in the Union Army (one died in service). Another white ancestor sheltered runaway slaves (the socalled underground railroad). And finally, a few of my ancestors were blacks ... freed slaves. How does all that enter into the mix?

How about my many coworkers who are Nigerian or Africans from other countries? Their ancestors, for all I know, could have sold some of my ancestors into slavery. Should they benefit from affirmative action?
