Not to change the subject but I've been working on the ethanol boondoggle and it's much worse than I first thought. Started looking at the problem about 5 years ago when in my mind it didn't seem to make scientific sense.

Over the weekend I stumbled on a number of good reports by a professor at Berkeley, Tad W. Patzek.

A fun read:

Shuck the ethanol and let solar shine

articles.moneycentral.msn.com

The real meat of the subject is here:

oilcrisis.com

Within this page are 5 reports with a lot of very detailed analysis pointing out why ethanol from bio will not work short or long term, and only at best supply a small fraction of our energy needs. So while following Congress with it's pathetic Energy Bill this weekend I'm just shaking my head. The current Energy Bill just guarantees a disaster in the making.

The farmers in the short run should be ok here since we are starting to have some severe shortages of grains in the world. But the Ethanol boys are gonna get their investment creamed in the next few years.

It comes down to science... Jay Inslee our local representative to Congress gets it but the vast majority sure don't including all of the current presidential candidates.
