On Patriot Scientific's ShBoom:

In general, analysts are fairly enthusiastic about the market for
embedded microprocessors. Generally such microprocessors were seen
in everything from customized industrial applications to laser
printers, graphics cards, game systems etc.
But their market is expected to grow significantly.

The reason for all the enthusiasm is the dawn of the internet decade.
The computer, the gaming, and the entertainment industries are keen
on developing internet appliances. The computer industry wants to
develop hand-held portable devices that allow remote mobile access
to the internet. Gaming industry players such as Sega and Nintendo
are keen on providing interactive playing on the internet and so want
their gaming systems to be able to hook on to the internet. And the
entertainment industry would like to provide interactive TV. The
last seems still a bit off, but the first two applications are very
practical given the technology today.

For most interactive applications, Java would be a natural choice.
And for running Java, ShBoom's stack-oriented architecture would be
a good fit. Naturally, the cost has to be low, ShBoom is currently
priced at about $30/chip which is the same as Digital's StrongARM's
price.

I am not sure of whether I should wait for a particular price for
PTSC's stock. If I don't buy at market, I probably won't get it
anyway. But in the long term, if it takes off it won't matter. And
if it doesn't, it won't matter either. ;-)
