I've been day trading this puppy, avoiding the first 1-2hour slide, buying if it goes into a steep slide near the end of that time, then selling before 3pm. I don't hold through the close. Look at today's chart for an excellent example. That is the only way I'm trying to make money "long" this stock. Jan in the money puts have been good to me as well, also short term (i.e. week long holding).

AMD might well bounce a couple of bucks on some unforseen news, but there are risks the other way which are greater. I just went to Staples and WalMart to buy an elcheapo desktop for my wife. AMD was MIA for instock desktops. I hauled home my first Intel box in many years. BTW, desktop showings were thin enough compared to notebooks anyway, so that conversion is stampeding along, and it is not good for AMD either. AMD was also poorly represented in notebooks on display. Some here have speculated that AMD will do seasonaly better this quarter than the past couple of quarters, but if my recent experience holds for the holiday season, I think they might tank.

AMD is busy compiling exhibit A for their lawsuit with Intel. His Honor will have excellent documentation of how AMD's profits are affected when AMD products can't compete with Intels, even when AMD is coming off the period of best brand awareness, customer acceptance, and OEM support that it has ever enjoyed in history. Food for thought when comparing to earlier days when AMD blamed it's poor profits on Intel machinations in the marketplace.
