The Green wackos you refer to are otherwise known as the global scientific community. I know it is out of fashion among neo-Con, Dubbya-lovers to believe that science has a role to play in the welfare of the Earth, since you'd rather pray for rain and flagellate for economic success, rather than deal with issues head-on and take responsibility for impacts on future generations.

In the real world here, we believe that science can tell us alot about the wold we live on and where it is headed, given humanity's impact. What scientists have said is that we are indeed past the point where we can AVOID rising temperatures. Based on the CO2 already in the air and the Earth's natural rate of absorption, called sink processes, we already know that we are committed to some temperature rise, likely in the range of 3 degrees over the next few decades.

The real problem is that we continue to pour far more into the atmosphere every year, and it is accelerating, which means we are committing ourselves to more and more of a rise in temperature.

So the question scientists are now asking us is this: how much damage do we want to commit ourselves to before we decide to change? Are we willing to make the Earth uninhabitable within the next 100-200 years, just because we don't care enough in our lifetimes to make a change for our children or grandchildren?

It's clear where you stand. If it doesn't impact you, then who gives a shit, right? You are what we call in Economics, a free-rider. It's people like you that lead to the Tragedy of the Commons. It's a good thing I live in an America that is more conscientious than you. Otherwise, we'd be in very deep shit indeed.
