Actually, if it were only 25-30%, then there wouldn't be a problem. The problem is that it's really more like 40-50%. That is why this country is going to hell in a handbasket. As long as that many Americans can be fooled into thinking someone like Bush Jr is doing a good job, the minority of smart people in this country have a massive job to do to overcome that.

I don't know how you stop Americans from wallowing in greed. The Venezuelans who are much poorer stood their ground against Chavez's bribe. The much richer Americans when bribed with tax cuts couldn't wait to vote Bush into power. Not all voted for the tax cuts, of course, but many of the current 30% still in support did. I am afraid those same people would sell the Constitution to the highest bidder if they could.
