When Citadel bought ETFC, a number was placed on what the subprime crap was worth. That's what the markets wanted to see. As for Bush's announced bailout - have YOU looked at the details? It's a stillborn failure. Do you REALLY think that BUSH will save us? My GLD & SLV is up nicely today too. The bailout was put together by Paulson and the mortgage industry. Paulson [formerly of GS]is probably the best person in Bush's cabinet. I skimmed it quickly and didn't see anything that should be a problem. Because of Mogul's complaining, I esp. checked to see if there was any taxpayer money involved and it didn't look that way. So what do you see that was bad? We'll just have to make our bets and agree to disagree.. That's all we can do.
