NM looks very impressive. Volume is tremendous today, and the stock is almost up to the 200-day MA ($7). NM hasn't been above its 200-day MA since the middle of 1996, even on an intraday basis. If the stock can penetrate this point, after basing for a while in the $5 area, we may yet be saved. I don't know what's causing the heavy institutional buying, but this seems like the most concerted buying effort I've seen in a while. Much of today's volume is selling, although it looks like the buyers may win.

Possible reasons for the stock's surge:

1. Rumor that NM is going to beat estimates for Q2.

2. Rumor that Lehman Bros. and NM have finally figured out how to "enhance shareholder value."

I won't be convinced until the stock closes above $7. That may not happen until next week, so I figure we'll hear the substance of the rumor(s) when NM is perched upon its 200-day MA. Frequently, it's at that point when news comes out. Hopefully, any news will be more exciting than the sentiment that's driving up the stock now.
