Your assertion of a trend in the order backlog intrigued me, so I dug back through the 10-K's and 10-Q's on Edgar. Here are the numbers I found:

6/30/97 378
6/36/96 522
3/31/96 334
12/31/95 378
10/1/95 287
6/30/95 323
4/2/95 334
1/1/95 281
10/2/94 334
6/30/94 338

Do these correspond to the numbers you are using? Do you have others that I have missed? I must admit that my cursory examination of these suggests that any trend is weak, but I'll reserve judgment until I have the same data as you are using.
