Isn't there a Crank's Corner at SI where all the contrarian thinking about Moon landings, Kennedy assassination conspiracies, 9/11 'alternatives,' black helicopters, etc., can be voiced? If not, you should consider starting one.
I value this thread for financial and economic discussion; the blather about moon landings, and the rest of the fringe 'out there' stuff, is a nuisance.
I know, I know, I am talking to one of the folks who is already deeply invested in this kind of nonsense, so my complaint will likely fall on deaf ears.
This post assumes that I might get lucky enough to reach these fringe posters' remaining vestige of rationality; they might, if I am very lucky, actually acknowledge that these subjects are not welcomed here. Maybe, just maybe, they will take it elsewhere.
But I doubt it. The nature of these peculiar obsessions includes a dogged refusal to see that others just don't give a flip about them. Thus, the other side of my plea to the 99% of posters who are not obsessed with the fringes is this: don't get into a discussion with these folks, they can become tedious and interminable. If you wish to do so, please don't do it here. |
