You're missing the point.

You have to respect the right of a person to make his or her own decisions, both good and bad. You think someone else's kids ought to be fed over my future kids 20 years from now, but that doesn't give you the moral authority to decide where my money should go.

Either that, or I can decide that YOUR kids are going to be "just fine," take your money, then stick your kids in whatever day care I choose, just on the basis of winning an election or getting appointed to some government office. Why? Because in your world, I would be given the power to make those decisions for you.

That's way too much power to give to any politician or government official. And it doesn't matter whether the politician usurped such power (communism), or whether the voters granted it (socialism). There can be no checks and balances to counteract this power.
